Exercise: Write Your Personal AI Use Policy
This is the most important exercise in the module — and possibly in the entire course. You are going to create a personal AI use policy: a brief, practical document that captures your commitments around responsible AI use.
This is not a theoretical exercise. This is a living document that you should keep, revisit, and refine as your experience grows and the landscape evolves.
Your policy should be approximately half a page (250 to 400 words) and should cover the following four areas:
Step 1—1. When I Will and Won't Use AI
Think about the types of tasks where AI adds genuine value to your work, and the types of tasks where you believe human-only work is more appropriate. Consider:
- What kinds of tasks do you regularly use AI for, or plan to?
- Are there tasks where you deliberately choose not to use AI? Why?
- Are there contexts (high stakes, emotionally sensitive, legally significant) where you apply different standards?
Write the 'When I Will and Won't Use AI' section of your policy.
A Note on This Document
Your personal AI use policy is not meant to be set in stone. It is a snapshot of your current thinking — informed by what you have learned in this course, shaped by your values, and grounded in the practical realities of your work.
Plan to revisit it in three months. You will almost certainly want to update it. That is not a sign that you got it wrong the first time. It is a sign that you are continuing to grow as a thoughtful, responsible AI user.
